Craftpersonship to Entrepreneurship

With the aim to support rural artisans on their journey from craftpersonship to entrepreneurship, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) New Delhi, India engaged with us. This engagement was a part of the NIFT ‘Artisan Awareness Workshop’ which is an activity encouraged by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

Here’s what they say about us:

The step-by-step run through on building a WhatsApp Business account and its relevance in their journey from ‘Craftpersonship to Entrepreneurship’ was appreciated by all artisans. (Surbhi Ahuja, Assistant Professor and Campus Co-ordinator M.Des, NIFT, New Delhi)

The six-hour workshop was titled, ‘Karigari se Vyapari’ or ‘Craftpersonship to Entrepreneurship’ and was conducted for the NIFT artisans across India. The aim of the project was to make the artisans understand the practical tools available to support them in their entrepreneurial journey and how they can use these tools to even thrive in challenging times – for instance, in times of the pandemic. The workshop entailed knowledge sharing on marketing & communication tools and interactive exercises for all the participants and has been held in 2021 and 2022.

Project outcomes

The pandemic has negatively impacted the handicrafts & handlooms space and artisans need to be equipped with practical entrepreneurial skills. The ‘Craftpersonship to Entrepreneurship’ workshop as part of the Artisans Awareness Workshop gave the opportunity to the rural artisans in the NIFT network to build those new-age skills. Key project outcomes included:
100+ participants (including 15 artisans, 4 faculty members and 90+ students) engaged during the workshop
More rural artisans empowered with practical tools to support their entrepreneurial journey
Built a bridge between academia and industry with practical and up-to-date technology & tools
